I Can Only Imagine: A devotional inspired by the song.

I  Can Only Imagine:

The first time I heard “I Can Only Imagine” was probably when I was about a year old. I certainly don’t remember hearing it then, but I know I must have somewhere. I grew up with this song as well. I’d hear it in church, and on the radio know and again. It’s a very famous song.

Just a few days back I saw the movie. If I’m honest I had not any intention of watching “some cheesy faith film.”, but something just drew me in. It can only be The Lord, because he knew I needed to hear it. It was amazing. To hear the story of this song, and what lead up to its release. It touched my heart.

Today I pulled up “I Can Only Imagine” and listened to it, for the first time. I had never really heard it. I had never really listened to the words.

“Surrounded by your glory

What will my heart feel

Will I dance for you Jesus

Or in awe of You be still

Will I stand in your presence

To my knees will I fall

Will I sing hallelujah

Will I be able to speak at all”

Just dwell on those words for a moment. Can you imagine that? A feeling of pure bliss, as we worship or Lord. Just us and him. Standing in the holy presence of God. What must that be like? It seem strange for someone like me to be excited about this, but I can’t wait to get home! To be with Jesus, My God and Savior. To look in his face and his majesty, and praise his name! What is greater than that? You are never to young to think about it. I can only imagine how it could be. What a glorious thought.

This song has spoken to me today, in way I didn’t think it could. I’m thankful for Bart Millard’s life and how it influenced these words. With all this that I’ve said in mind, I must ask this: Are you as ready as I am? To meet God and stand before him? What a beautiful opportunity! That because of giving our lives over to Christ, our great reward is eternity with The Savior of the World. I can only imagine. Anyone else glad for that or is it just me today? Think about is go through your day. Can you just imagine it?

Dear Lord, we thank you for The Cross. You died for our sins, and saved us from eternal death. Because of that, we get to spend eternity with you Jesus. Thank You Lord Jesus. You are worthy to be praised. Help us to imagine what that day will be like, when we will forever worship you. In your name we pray, Amen.
